Reed Smith LLP, one of Pittsburgh's largest law firms, may soon enter Chicago via a merger with Wildman Harrold, a 215-lawyer firm based in Chicago that's roughly one-fifth its size.
"Reed Smith has a strategic interest in the Chicago market, and we have talked and continue to talk to a number of firms there," firmwide managing partner Gregory Jordan wrote in an e-mail. "Wildman Harrold is among them, but at this point, any further comment would be premature."
Jordan, working this week from Reed Smith's London and Munich offices, did not expand on his e-mailed statement. Robert Shuftan, Wildman Harrold managing partner, was also in Europe, said his executive assistant Hope Grace, and unavailable for comment.
"It's a solid firm with well-rounded lawyers and would be a great acquisition and give Reed Smith the depth they're looking for." - Lori Carpenter
