Discover the Process

Explore the search process below to learn what you can expect as a candidate who has been recruited for one of our in-house or law firm searches.

Starting the Process

CLS is engaged to conduct searches for many corporations and law firms, and if we reach out to you, we believe you may be a likely fit for a position. If you have submitted a confidential resume and aren’t hearing from us, please know that “out of sight” is not “out of mind.” We are likely recruiting on searches that are not relative to your skills and expertise at the moment. You certainly will hear from us if we have an opportunity that may be of interest and a fit for you.

Recruited for a Search

We ask for a copy of your resume and schedule an initial screening to discover if your general skills, experience and compensation expectations are on point for the position. If you are a likely fit for our client’s needs, and the role seems like an advantageous opportunity for you, we conduct an extensive interview to delve into all of the nuances of the position in correlation with your experience, career aspirations, motivations to make a change, soft skills, and other criteria.

Assessment and Submission

Throughout our process, we assess your unique skills and experience (see Focused on the Fit®). If you are a best fit for our client’s position, and the role is a beneficial career match for you, we obtain your consent in writing before reviewing your information with and/or submitting your materials to the client. We also verify receipt of your law degree and active bar admissions.

Interviewing

We schedule time to prepare you for your interview with our client. We educate you on what you can expect in the process and also give you advice and techniques that will help you to put your best foot forward when interviewing, whether virtually or in-person. There can be several rounds of interviews, as you both will want to gauge if the opportunity is a best fit. After you have interviewed, we schedule time to debrief to discuss the interview and obtain feedback. Our client also will debrief with us, and we will share their feedback with you.

Receiving an Offer

If you are the best fit for the opportunity, you will receive an offer. We will walk you through that process with our client, helping to answer any lingering questions. If requested, we will ask you to provide references so that we can conduct reference checks and submit them to the client. Once you accept an offer, we support you through the resignation process with your employer. We also advise on any background checks or testing that must be done before resignation and assist in establishing a start date.

Onboarding

We assist you with your transition, helping to work through any last onboarding details. Our support to you in your new position does not end on your start date with our client. We follow up with you routinely to hear how things are going, to offer advice, and to obtain feedback. We anticipate that you will become a vital member of our client’s team for the long term.
