"Curiosity is a competitive advantage."
As
Shanti Ariker mentions in this article on her In-House Lawyering and Beyond, "Back to the Future: I've Seen This Technology Panic Before #38," we have been curious to see how AI could help us recruit with more efficiency. Not that we (or anyone else) wants a chat bot to be reaching out to people for substantive conversation, but we kept an open mind as we started to explore how it could assist.
We started slow and are learning to integrate it, developing new processes. It has been exceptional for notetaking, reducing administrative time after a call. We used to spend inordinate amounts of time deciphering and transposing written notes or scanning them. Now, instead of paper piling on our desks and having to dedicate a day in the office to "catching up with notes," we are able to simply review the notes from the notetaker, edit, and move on. Saving us time on the back end with a routine administrative task? Achievement unlocked!
Also, using AI does afford us the ability to shift our focus more deeply into our calls and interviews, letting us completely concentrate on listening instead of trying to listen carefully while simultaneously taking notes. With AI holding up the physical administrative end of things, we increase the quality of our interpersonal interactions. Increasing focus and engagement? Achievement unlocked!
Lastly, impressions and interpretations of interactions are important, but the brain is not full proof on recall. Our brains are made to draw inferences and "fill in the blanks" and can not remember the entire contents of an hour call verbatim. With AI, you get the black and white transcript of a conversation and an audio recording. If you want some clarity around a topic or want to hear how something was expressed, you can go back and read a transcript or listen to a recording. Increasing accuracy and understanding? Achievement unlocked!
Especially in recruiting, we find that AI is not replacing us humans in the search process. However, it is helping us to be more present in our interactions and, at the end of the day, more human.
