Job Description:
Our public-company client has exclusively engaged us to identify an employment attorney for an outstanding opportunity at its Michigan headquarters (other locations within the U.S. may possibly be considered as well).  Candidates must have at least 3 years of employment law experience, but the substantive responsibilities of this position will make this opportunity attractive to those candidates with more experience (around the 6-8 year range) as well.   

This Counsel will be responsible for advising human resources professionals and other management in connection with a variety of employment law matters including discrimination and harassment, wage and hour issues, hiring procedures, employee status and worker classification, individual terminations and reductions in force, disciplinary procedures, and leaves of absence and accommodation requests.  This position also will be responsible for drafting and updating domestic and global employment-related policies as well as providing training regarding compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations such as the ADA, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, OSHA, Title VII, and USERRA.  In addition, this attorney will assist with and advise on internal investigations relating to alleged harassment, discrimination and other workplace claims and will review and interpret collective bargaining agreements and advise on labor law issues.  

This role, which reports directly to the Director of the Office of Ethics and Compliance and Senior Managing Counsel, requires a personable self-starter who is confident, collaborative, flexible, responsive and highly motivated.  Candidates must have strong emotional intelligence and business acumen as well as stellar written and oral communication skills.  It also will be critical for this Counsel to have excellent judgment and the ability to prioritize multiple clients’ varying needs.
